Last Saturday, Doctor Who companions Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill stepped into the TARDIS as Amy Pond and Rory Williams for the last time. In her first interview since their departure, Gillan has spoken about their tear-filled last day on set.

While promoting her movie début Not Another Happy Ending at the Cannes Film Festival, the Scottish actress gave an interview with the Daily Record. On her final scene with co-stars Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill, she said:

“It was a weird, serene day where everyone was feeling it. We don’t film in chronological order so the last shot we filmed was me, Matt and Arthur going into the Tardis. Then Matt closed the door for the last time and we were in darkness. We hugged and started crying. It was kind of tears of happiness.
It was a feeling of ‘Look at what we’ve done’. It was lovely.”

She also briefly mentioned souvenirs from the set, telling reporters that she took a pair of binoculars from the TARDIS as a keepsake – all costumes and main props are kept to be displayed in exhibitions.
