Karen Gillan has been busy since departing Doctor Who. She stopped by fellow Scot, Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show to chat about life in Los Angeles, to sing in Gaelic, and be amazed at a coconut while wearing a party hat.

Karen Gillan’s latest project is the horror film Oculus which she just finished filming in Alabama. According to Deadline, “The plot begins a decade after a terrifying family incident left two young children orphans. Although her brother was charged with murder, Kaylie (Gillan) is convinced a haunted antique mirror is the real perpetrator and years later wants to prove that the mirror was responsible for destroying their family.” The film also stars Katee Sackhoff of Battlestar Galactica fame and Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites who is a relative unknown in the USA.

In commenting recently to the Record on the culture shock of living in both the rural South and Los Angeles Gillan stated, “There’s loads of vegans [in Los Angeles] but I won’t turn vegan. I’m too Scottish. I love haggis. I loved Alabama because it reminds me of my home town. There is no one there and there is a lot of fried food. My guilty pleasure is Mars bars put in the deep fat fryer.”

Gillan, who just turned 25 yesterday, is looking forward to what her future career brings. She’s looking to take things one day at a time in Los Angeles after going back to her native Scotland for the Christmas holiday.

Will you be seeing Oculus when it hits theaters sometime in 2014?
