Warner Brothers is letting people know that their Justice League movie is definitely happening despite rumors that the studio isn’t thrilled with how Batman v Superman has turned out.

Background: Two reputable film bloggers have heard over the past few weeks that WB is “uncertain” of their new DC film, and that Dawn of Justice isn’t “the springboard into Justice League they wanted it to be” (Sources are Birth Movies Death’s Devin Faraci and Hitfix’s Drew McWeeny respectively). In fact, the latter writer has heard such mixed reactions to the movie that he said he wouldn’t be surprised if its follow-up movie Justice League, Part 1 were to get pushed back. He says its original release date in November 2017 would instead be filled by a solo Batman movie which has been strongly rumored to be in development.

Why would Justice League get replaced by solo Batman movie? Both sources have heard positive things about Ben Affleck’s role as the Dark Knight in Dawn of Justice.

It’s funny: Who would’ve thought he’d be the standout when he was cast way back in August 2013?

But those reports and rumors, particularly the release date chatter, are being called into question today. WB has confirmed to EW that filming on Justice League will begin this April — just a couple weeks after Batman v Superman opens in theaters.

Says Batman v Superman and Dawn of Justice, Part 1 director Zack Snyder about the start of production, “The idea that we could begin to boot up a Justice League concept was a cool thing. It was a little bit of an ‘about time’ moment, and I don’t blame [the studio] for feeling that way, because it’s a long time coming,” he said. “But I do feel like it’s a little bit of a creative hurdle. It seems like an easy thing to do at first glance, the idea that, ‘Oh, we just get the rest of the superheroes in there.’ But you have to [establish] a world where they can exist.”

Indeed, the Justice League world will be established in Batman v Superman thanks to appearances by many DC heroes including Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa). Characters like The Flash (Ezra Miller) are also rumored to appear.

Dawn of Justice flies into theaters March 25. We’ll be very curious to see how fans react to the long-awaited battle between Batman and Superman, and if it’ll get them excited for future films including 2017’s Wonder Woman.
