Universal Orlando’s Jurassic Park land is about to grow, according to a report.

A reliable insider on Orlando United’s forum revealed last night that development on a Jurassic Park land expansion has commenced at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure.

Orlando United user HateToFly says “site prep and survey work” are underway, with “survey markers and flags” appearing behind the land’s main dinosaur-themed attraction.

Currently, the biggest attraction in Jurassic Park is the “River Adventure” water ride which takes guests on a cruise to see some dinosaurs before making a wrong turn into trouble. There’s also the “Jurassic Park Discovery Center” and for kids an aerial ride called “Pteranodon Flyers.”

Jurassic Park has been a part of Islands of Adventure since its May 1999 opening. The land was added into plans for the park following the success of the first movie directed by Steven Spielberg in 1993.

There’s no information on what Universal may be adding to Jurassic Park, but we’re personally hoping for an additional thrill ride.

Universal may be expanding the land in light of the movie Jurassic Park 4 which is currently in pre-production. It is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015. An additional Jurassic Park film will renew guests’ interest in the theme park land.

If reports of an expansion are true, the Jurassic Park expansion will likely be the largest project for Islands of Adventure since The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened in 2010. The Potter-themed land is currently receiving a Hogwarts Express train station which will take guests to the new Diagon Alley land at Universal Studios (opening next year).
