Jurassic Park 4′s plot will indeed involve a return to the original film’s island: Isla Nublar!

The news was made official today by director Colin Trevorrow who shared a photo of Nublar from a scouting trip in a tweet:

Jurassic Park 4′s plot returning to the island that started it all will come as welcome information to fans. Jurassic Park 2 and Jurassic Park 3 were set on a different island (Isla Sorna) and weren’t received as well as the original.

It’s unclear at this time what kind of connection Jurassic Park 4‘s plot will have to the original film, but we can hope that the storyline somehow follows an attempt to revitalize the original park known by moviegoers around the world. On the other hand, it could be just a small cameo for Isla Nublar where we see the characters visit to make note of all the things that went terribly wrong.

The decision to set the story to some extent on Isla Nublar is smart. Not only will fans appreciate the throwback, but the island is very fresh in everyone’s minds thanks to the theatrical re-release of Jurassic Park in 3D last month.

Jurassic Park 3D’s opening weekend at the box office raked in $27.2 million worldwide. That number includes $6 million from IMAX theaters.

Jurassic Park 4 opens in theaters in 3D June 13, 2014. Details surrounding the plot line, outside of the location, are still very slim.
