Another chain of e-mails in the ever-growing Sony leak has revealed that the studio is planning to bring the Men in Black world into the Jump Street series.

The Wall Street Journal has obtained e-mails that indicate that Agent J and Agent K, played by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in the last three Men in Black movies, are to appear in a third Jump Street film starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

By the sounds of things, Smith and Jones aren’t currently signed on and may not play the two leads in Jump Street. If the actors do appear, they won’t necessarily be prominent roles.

The WSJ published e-mails between Sony head Amy Pascal and Hill, who described the potential crossover as “clean and rad and powerful.” Phil Lord and Chris Miller are attached to produce, and may direct.

According to e-mails, the script isn’t complete and they’ll be “greenlighting the movie off the concept and the talent involved.” Sony is hoping that the project will “reinvigorate” the Men in Black franchise, according to the WSJ, and wants to get the film in theaters by 2016 or 2017.

Another e-mail shows that Sony is talking with Steven Spielberg’s attorney to ask for his help. Spielberg was an executive producer on the Men in Black films.

This latest leak arrives on the heels of last night’s revelation that Sony and Marvel have been discussing the future of Spider-Man. At one point there were discussions between the two studios to bring Spidey into Captain America: Civil War starring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., but those plans fell apart.

Not all is lost on Spidey, however. Sony is currently working with Phil Lord and Chris Miller to create an animated Spider-Man film, according to the leaks, and studio execs are planning a “Spidey Summit” in January to figure out what to do with the character.

Crossovers are all the rage right now (see Batman v Superman, Civil War), but we’d be curious to see how bringing Men in Black characters into the Jump Street fold would “reinvigorate” the former’s franchise. We suppose this may be Sony’s best crossover bet at the moment since they’re currently unable to work out something big with Spider-Man.
