There have been many actors to play Superman, but Jude Law certainly doesn’t come to mind when one hears the original film’s theme song. However, Law reveals in a new video interview that he was actually asked to play the man of steel.

With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in full swing, and Henry Cavill donning Superman’s costume once again, we forget that other actors were one theme song note away from playing the man of steel. Jude Law reveals that he was asked to play Superman back when Brett Ratner was set to direct the film in the early 2000s.

We know that this film would never get off the ground, and Brandon Routh would later wear the cape in Superman Returns, where it bombed terribly. We imagine fans would have definitely been surprised to see Jude Law take on the role of Clark Kent, but it seems Jude only needed a minute of wearing the costume to know that he didn’t want to be known as Superman for the rest of his life.

Probably a smart move on his part, and possibly a difficult decision to make back in the early 2000s when he wasn’t nearly the actor he is today. It’s definitely interesting to hear about him being brought the suit by security guards, and them waiting outside the bathroom as he tried it on.

It’s fun to think what could have been, but we’re also glad that Man of Steel director found actor Henry Cavill, as he’s an excellent Superman, who should be wearing the cape for many years to come in the upcoming Batman v Superman and Justice League films.

It is somewhat ironic that so many incredible British actors have been tapped to play Superman, considering he’s always been seen as an American icon. Let us know if you think Jude Law would have been a good Superman, and if you enjoyed hearing about his one minute as the man of steel.
