Joss Whedon’s new movie In Your Eyes debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival yesterday, and in a surprise move, it’s now available for all to see.

When movies premiere at film festivals, it can often be months or years before those not in attendance will ever get a chance to see them, and sometimes they even never get seen again if they don’t secure distribution deals. In an effort to try something new, Joss Whedon has gone with a different method for his new movie.

Whedon premiered his new movie In Your Eyes at the Tribeca Film Festival yesterday and took to the screen to make a very unusual announcement.

“I wish I could be there with you, but I’m here with me instead,” said Whedon, who wasn’t at the festival because he’s currently filming Avengers: Age of Ultron. “It’s a very exciting night for us, because it’s not just the première of the film, it is the worldwide release date. Because as of now, In Your Eyes is available on any Internet-capable device at inyoureyesmovie.com, for the thrifty price of $5. This is exciting for us, because we get to explore yet another new form of distribution — and get $5.”

In Your Eyes was written and executive produced by Whedon. Brin Hill directed the cast that includes Zoe Kazan, Michael Stahl-David, Nikki Reed, Mark Feuerstein, Jennifer Grey, and Steve Howey.
