Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip that started from this tropic port with Josh Gad aboard this tiny ship. That is, the Gilligan’s Island movie.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros has Josh Gad in the Gilligan’s Island movie that will be based upon the classic TV show. Gad will also co-write the script with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.

For those unaware with the original show, the Gilligan’s Island series from the 1960s revolves around seven castaways who are stranded on a desert island after the USS Minnow is shipwrecked. Better yet, just listen to the theme song, which perfectly describes the premise of the show.

Gad will presumedly play the titular role, but another option would be The Skipper. Both roles would fit very well into Gad’s acting ability.

The original show, which ran from 1964-67, was created by Sherwood Schwartz. Two of his children, Lloyd and Ross, will executive produce with Tracey Silvers and Cathy Silvers.

Bob Denver starred in the original as Gilligan and Alan Hale Jr. played The Skipper. The other actors in the show were Jim Backus as Thurston Howell III, Natalie Schafer as Lovely Howell, Tina Louise as Ginger Grant, Russell Johnson as Professor Roy Hinkley, and Dawn Wells as Mary Ann Summers.

It’ll be interesting to see how the film works. The show primarily revolved around them facing a new problem every week, but still never being able to make it off the island. It’s unlikely that the film would leave them stranded at the end, so it’ll be interesting to see how they work the script.

Is Josh Gad a good choice for ‘Gilligan’s Island’?
