Josh Brolin and Jake Gyllenhaal are among a host of actors in talks to star in a film about a group of climbers who dare to scale Mount Everest.

Everest, a venture from Universal and Working Title, will tell the fact-based stories of climbers hit by a blinding snow storm during an expedition up Mount Everest.

Brolin and Gyllenhaal have entered negotiations to join the production, along with Aussie Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and John Hawkes (Lincoln, The Sessions).

Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur (2 Guns, Contraband)is already in place to direct and is still in the stages of bringing his cast together.

Justin Isbell and William Nicholson (Les Misérables) wrote the screenplay which sources multiple accounts of three different Everest expeditions in 1996 that were hit by the same devastating snow storm.

Brolin should have some free time soon as he has three films in post-production including Spike Lee’s Old Boy and the Sin City sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Gyllenhaal is also pretty freed up with two projects in post production and the film adaptation of Into The Woods, which he is already cast in, not set to hit theaters until next Christmas.

It was reported a few months back that Christian Bale was in talks to head up the cast of the film, but Bale’s involvement is still rumored and not confirmed. Bale recently finished up filming with director Terrence Malick on an untitled star-studded project and only has one other confirmed project on the horizon.

According to Deadline, Kormakur is hoping to begin shooting in November of this year.
