Deadline is reporting that Quentin Tarantino has added Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) and Anthony LaPaglia (“Without a Trace”) to the already star-studded cast of Django Unchained, where the pair will play “mean [Aussie] brothers” in the upcoming film.

While Gordon-Levitt was previously rumored by Moviefone to be in talks for the film, this new information comes after Deadline spoke with LaPaglia himself:

LaPaglia said he was bowled over by the script. “It’s wildly ambitious and imaginative, deals with that subject matter in a way it hasn’t been dealt with before,” LaPaglia told me. “The way the cast has shaped up, it’s exciting to be involved.”

LaPaglia, of course, speaks of the already impressive cast which Tarantino has amassed. The cast includes Jamie Foxx (Ray) as Django, a freed slave who sets out to rescue his wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington, The Last King of Scotland). On the journey, Django teams up with the german bounty hunter, Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz, Inglorious Bastards) to track down the plantation owner who has his wife, Calvin Candle (Leonardo DiCaprio, Titanic). LaPaglia and Gordon-Levitt will play evil Aussie brothers who are escorting a group of recently purchased slaves.

Additional confirmed cast includes Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), Kurt Russell (Death Proof), Don Johnson (Machete), Gerald McRainey (“Deadwood”), Dennis Christopher (It) , and many others. It has also been reported by The Film Stage that Michael K. Willams (“The Wire”) has been tapped for a role, despite losing out to Jaime Foxx in the casting of Django himself.

With all this news, it is not surprising that Django Unchained has jumped to the top of many people’s “Most Anticipated” lists. The film is scheduled to begin filming in January for a Christmas, 2012 release.
