Glee‘s Jonathan Groff and Smash‘s Jeremy Jordan returned to their Broadway roots Monday for a duet of “Let Me Be Your Star,” channeling Marilyn Monroe and her blonde hair.

The duo, known for their roles in Spring Awakening and Newsies, respectively, took on the Smash ballad as part of Miscast 2013 – a fundraiser in which Broadway stars perform songs they would never get cast to sing. Last year, Groff took on “Anything Goes” – tap number and all.

In this case, Jordan chose the ballad sung by Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty on the pilot of the NBC musical drama.

“This song has always hit me close to home, and I think a lot of the actors in the crowd can sort of relate with me that there’s always that one person that always gets that role you always wanted. And they’re always at every audition, and you can’t ever quite make it past them,” Jordan said, introducing his performance and jokingly hinting at Groff being that person for him.

Jordan kicks off the song before Groff then joins in, and it all culminates with the duo donning Marilyn Monroe wigs and holding hands as the song comes to an end.
