Jon Stewart made a surprise appearance on Monday night’s edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to compare the media to a person who can’t get out of a bad relationship.

Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart climbed out of his tunnel, leading directly to Colbert’s Late Show desk, and delivered a great monologue about the state of the relationship between Trump and the media. In short, Jon asks the press to use these rough few weeks to reflect and start new. Does he “believe” they’ll actually do that? Of course not.

Stephen Colbert’s heavy focus on politics — a hallmark of his old Comedy Central show — has bolstered his ratings in recent weeks. For the past month, The Late Show has beaten Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, who’s typically been the late night leader.

It looks like late night TV viewers are opting for a funny take on the day’s political news, something Stephen Colbert is very good at, over the lighter material happening over on The Tonight Show.

Jon Stewart has made a few appearances on Colbert’s Late Show since its inception. Jon’s been enjoying some time away from TV while working on a new project with HBO.
