Could Rose Tico be the next Star Wars character to get her own show on Disney+? Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu sure hopes so!

Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico might have had a huge part to play in 2017’s The Last Jedi, but the same can’t be said for her role in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.

In fact, Rose Tico fans itching to see what sort of role she might play in the final installment of the Skywalker Saga were left wanting more.

The lack of Rose (and Tran for that matter) in the final film has left a bitter taste in the mouths of many fans, who’ve not shied away from speaking out about the decision on social media.

Now, it’s clear that moviegoers aren’t the only ones itching for more of Rose Tico’s story. In fact, the Resistance member has at least one very famous director in her corner.

On Thursday (December 26), director Jon M. Chu (best known for helming Crazy Rich Asians, and the upcoming big screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights musical) took to Twitter to champion for more Rose.

Specifically, Chu made a plea directly to Disney+, asking the new streaming platform to consider giving Rose her own spinoff series.

“Ok @disneyplus. Put me in coach. Let’s make this series happen,” tweeted Chu, volunteering himself to spearhead the project. “#RoseTicoDeservedBetter @starwars.”

We’re sure fans are already imagining just how amazing a Rose Tico spin-off series on Disney+ could be — there’s certainly no shortage of directions a series centered on the character could take.

Neither Disney+ nor Walt Disney Studios or Lucasfilm have commented on the matter just yet, but here’s hoping they’re paying close attention to just how many Star Wars fans would jump at the chance to see Rose Tico back on their screens!
