The Now You See Me franchise is continuing with a third movie, which will likely reunite the core cast.

The first Now You See Me movie was a bit of a surprise hit, its stunning visuals and genuinely surprising twist offering cinema audiences an unexpected treat.

But the Now You Sequel… not so much.

Bringing back Jesse Eisenberg Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman — but swapping ‘the girl’ from Isla Fisher to Lizzy Caplan — Now You See Me 2 did not only disappoint because it wasn’t titled Now You Don’t, but because it genuinely didn’t offer any surprises.

For a movie about magic tricks, there was a glaring absence of actual story twists or misdirects, and the final ‘reveal’ didn’t actually reveal much of anything.

For all that, the movie was a pretty solid hit when it debuted earlier this year, and there will be a third, because of course there will. Sequel director Jon M Chu is returning for Now You Three Me (not likely to be the actual title, unfortunately) and tells Collider that “we’re writing it right now.”

“We’re in the middle of it,” says Chu. “I think it’s fun to get people’s feedback and be like, ‘Are we doing everything right? Do we want to do it? Do we want to flip some things? Is the audience ahead of us on some other things?’ We’re just getting it all together right now. It’s all scheduling, really. That’s the hardest part.”

Expect the third movie to move in new and exciting directions. Teases Chu, “we have some really fun ideas. There’s a whole other world to magic that we would love to explore, and I think the audience would find it really interesting.”
