Fun fact: last night’s episode of Mad Men was directed by lead star Jon Hamm!

In a new interview with AMC, he discusses the pressure of taking on the big behind-the-scenes role.

Quotage from the interview:

Q: Matthew Weiner told us he dreams about the show. Do you?

A: I had an anxiety dream before directing. I woke up the day before we had to go back to set and was like, “Oh my God.”

Q: What was your fear exactly?

A: I was just worried I was going to be completely overwhelmed and exhausted. And what ended up happening was, which was a really cool lesson, was that I was completely invigorated and energized… Everything felt new again and everything felt exciting again and everything felt fresh. It was like I was a junior again, saying, “Let’s go! Let’s make the show! Alright!”

Q: What do you think of the show’s underlying message about right and wrong?

A: Listen: There ain’t none of us on the planet that are perfect. And I think that people recognize human frailties and foibles and f***-ups and identify with it, honestly. Superman is a cartoon character. He’s not a real person. And no one is without sin, without mistakes.
