Jon Chu, whose latest directing credits include G.I. Joe: Retaliation, is in talks to direct the Disney owned Matched adaptation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Chu is in talks to direct the Matched adaptation. The last news regarding Matched was that Eclipse director David Slade was in talks to direct the film. Clearly that didn’t work out. Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot are producing via their Offspring Entertainment shingle.

Jon Chu’s most recent work was the action packed G.I. Joe: Retaliation, however his other directing credits include Step up 2: The Streets and the Justin Bieber documentary Never Say Never.

Chu, having worked on the Step Up movies, has clearly worked with Shankman before and would appear to be a better match for the project than Slade. The script has been written by Michelle and Kieran Mulroney,
who also penned the script for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Set in a future society where people are told what to read, what to watch, what to believe and who to love, the story centers on a young woman who rejects an arranged romance and chooses her own path. The idea for Matched came in 2008 when Condie’s husband asked her, “What if someone wrote the perfect algorithm for lining people up, and the government used it to decide who you married, when you married, etc.?” Condie was also inspired by a time when she chaperoned a high school prom and other experiences such as falling in love and becoming a parent.

Do you think Chu is the right person to bring ‘Matched’ to the big screen?
