Check out the trailer for Jojo Rabbit, the darkly comedic anti-hate satire in which Taika Waititi plays an imaginary Hitler.

Before he heads back to the director’s chair for Thor: Love and Thunder and makes an appearance in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad, Taika Waititi — a proud Polynesian Jew — will pop up on our screens playing Adolf Hitler.

Or rather, an imaginary Adolf Hitler — the imaginary best friend to a ten year old boy during the closing years of the Second World war.

Taika Waititi gave us a small teaser trailer a few weeks ago, which highlighted the director’s trademark wit and whimsy. The full trailer gives us a better idea of the story for Jojo Rabbit and fleshes out the characters a little bit more as well.

Watch the hilarious trailer for Taika Waititi’s upcoming satirical film, Jojo Rabbit, below!

Jojo Rabbit follows Jojo, a young boy and member of the Hitler Youth. He’s a lonely kid whose best friend is an imaginary version of Adolf Hitler. His worldview is turned upside down when he finds out that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl within the walls of their home.

Their friendship calls into question his blind faith in the Nazi party, as he starts to realize that it’s never a good time to be a Nazi.

Roman Griffin Davis plays the titular Jojo, while Thomasin McKenzie plays Elsa, the Jewish girl hiding in the walls of his home. Scarlett Johansson plays his mother, with Stephen Merchant, Rebel Wilson, Alfie Allen and Sam Rockwell rounding out the cast as various members of the Nazi party in Germany.

Taika Waititi wrote the script for the film, based on the book Caging Skies by New Zealand author Christine Leunens.

Jojo Rabbit will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival before its wide release on October 18.
