The book world has just added a dash of Hollywood as Johnny Depp will run a publishing imprint at Harper Collins. The imprint will have the same name as his production company, Infinitum Nihil, which means “nothing is forever.”

According the the Associated Press a book is already slated for release. The novel to be released is The Unraveled Tales of Bob Dylan, which aims to set the record straight on the songwriter’s enigmatic life and career and will be based in part on interviews with Dylan by best-selling historian Douglas Brinkley. The novel is set for release in 2015.

On creating the imprint with Harper Collins, Depp says, “I pledge, on behalf of Infinitum Nihil, that we will do our best to deliver publications worthy of peoples’ time, of peoples’ concern, publications that might ordinarily never have breached the parapet.” Depp is seeking “authentic, outspoken and visionary ideas and voices.”

In a way it is not surprising that Depp has moved into the business of books; 18 of his 45 films had been related to books. He even played author J.M. Barrie in Finding Neverland. Other notable titles include What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Alice in Wonderland.

It will be interesting to see what kinds of work Depp brings to the table and if this imprint will give the publishing industry a boost. What do you think of Johnny Depp running a publishing imprint?
