John Travolta has issued a statement two days after his infamous flub at the 2014 Academy Awards in which he introduced Idina Menzel using the completely wrong name.

The actor was introducing Menzel and her performance of Frozen’s Academy Award-winning “Let It Go” on Sunday when he accidentally called her “Adele Dazeem,” according to most viewers’ translations. Since the broadcast was live, his slip up was naturally shared on the internet for all to see:

In a statement, Travolta told ABC News on Tuesday, “I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought … what would Idina Menzel say? She’d say, Let it go, let it go! Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!”

Obviously the actor doesn’t try to explain why the slip-up occurred. Perhaps it was nerves? Maybe the teleprompter screwed up? Maybe even he doesn’t have an explanation. No matter what, we’re surprised Travolta didn’t try saying her name a second time.

The “Idina/Adele” flub quickly became an internet sensation because of how strange it was. Yesterday Slate.com created a generator that lets you “Travoltify” your name.
