John Oliver took full advantage of HBO’s lack of censorship, going on a cathartic, profanity-laden rant about the Paris attacks on Last Week Tonight.

On Friday night, a group of terrorists, in an attack we now know was planned by ISIS, killed at least 129 people in coordinated attacks across the French capital.

Across the globe we followed the Paris attacks in horror, and were left angry, afraid, and helpless in the face of such unadulterated hate.

Paris is still reeling from their unspeakable loss, and the rest of the world is left needing an outlet for their anger and disgust.

Perhaps John Oliver’s (very NSFW) ran on Last Week Tonight will give you some relief, as Oliver said live on TV what the rest of us are thinking: “F*** those a***holes.”

Prefacing his cathartic rant, Oliver said, “This is when it actually helps to be on HBO, where those things can be said without restraint, because after the many necessary and appropriate moments of silence, I’d like to offer you a moment of premium cable profanity.”

And this was his message to the attackers: “F*** these a***holes. F*** them, if I may say, sideways.”

“We know this attack was carried out by gigantic f***ing a***holes. Unconscionable flaming a***holes, possibly working with other f***ing a***holes, definitely working in service of an ideology of pure a***holery.”

Going on to celebrate France, Oliver said, “It is important to remember: Nothing about what these arseholes are trying to do is going to work. France is going to endure. And I’ll tell you why: If you’re in a war of culture and lifestyle with France, good f—ing luck! Because go ahead, bring your bankrupt ideology. They’ll bring Jean-Paul Sartre, Edith Piaf, fine wine, Gauloises cigarettes, Camus, Camembert, madeleines, macarons, Marcel Proust, and the f***ing croquembouche. The croquembouche! You’ve just brought a philosophy of rigorous self-abnegation to a pastry fight, my friends! You are f***ed! That is a French freedom tower!”

Oliver finished his short rant with a more somber note of solidarity: “To the people of France, our thoughts are truly with you.”
