John Krasinski reveals what may have lost him the Captain America role: During his screen test, Chris Hemsworth walked by as Thor.

In an alternate reality, John Krasinski — comedic genius turned action star — might have played Captain America in the rebooted MCU.

The actor was reportedly a close contender for the role but, as we know, he ultimately lost out to Chris Evans.

During an appearance on Conan, Krasinski gave a few more details about how exactly he lost the part. At it turns out, it was all Chris Hemsworth’s muscles’ fault:

Although Captain America: The First Avenger actually came out the year before Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, it sounds like John Krasinski screen-tested for the role against the other Avengers — including, evidently, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. (Unless he just liked hanging out on set in his Thor outfit, of course.)

“The only bummer of it was, I was putting on the suit, looking down and thinking, ‘This is so amazing,'” Krasinski recalls. “I got about right to my waist, I was still shirtless, feeling pretty good about myself. And all of a sudden Chris Hemsworth walked by as Thor and he went, ‘Hey mate.’ And I went, ‘I’m good. This is stupid. It’s okay, I’m not Captain America, it’s fine.'”

Since then, Krasinski has buffed up for 13 Hours, and he’s now set to star as Jack Ryan in Amazon’s new action series. At the time, however, we imagine it must have been intimidating to be in a room with Thor himself!

While it’s hard to imagine anyone but Chris Evans in the iconic role now, a Krasinski version of Captain America may actually have been interesting. Would he have had as great chemistry with Bucky though? Discuss!
