Oscar-nominee John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone) and Mos Def, aka yasiin bey (16 Blocks), have been tapped for a sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, for writer/director Dan Schechter.

The film, based on the novel The Switch by Elmore Leonard, takes place fifteen years prior to the events in Jackie Brown, with Hawkes and Mos Def set to reprise the characters previously played by Robert De Niro and Samuel L. Jackson, respectively.

According to Variety, the film is “set 15 years before the events in “Jackie Brown,” story follows career criminals Ordell and Louis as they team up to kidnap Mickey Dawson, the wife of a corrupt Detroit real estate developer. When the husband refuses to pay the ransom for his wife’s return, the ex-cons are forced to reconceive their plan, and the angry housewife uses the duo to get her revenge.”

Unfortunately, Tarantino isn’t involved in the project, although the author Elmore Leonard has joined the project as a producer, with production set to start in May. What do you think of a Jackie Brown prequel?
