Fans may still be anticipating the theatrical release of The Fault in Our Stars, but John Green, Nat Wolff and more have already started shifting their attention over to the production of the Paper Towns movie — the next of Green’s books set to get the silver screen treatment. The Hollywood Reporter (THR) caught up with author John Green on the blue carpet at Monday’s The Fault in Our Stars premiere in New York City where the author talked excitedly about the production of Paper Towns — the upcoming book-to-film adaptation based on Green’s 2008 novel about a nerdy teen who finds himself searching for the most popular girl in school after she disappears the night before graduation.
The upcoming film is set to reunite quite a few TFIOS collaborators including screenwriters Michael Weber and Scott Neustadter, producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, and Fault in Our Stars actor Nat Wolff who will star in the film as Quentin (better known to fans of the book as simply Q.)
“I can’t wait for everybody to see Scott and Mike’s script, and to see Nat as Q,” Green told THR. “Nat is such an extraordinary actor and I can’t wait to hang out with him again. Maybe we’ll get the whole band back together!”
Later on in the afternoon, THR also caught up with Nat Wolf who explained how he got the role: “When I was on set [filming The Fault in Our Stars] Wyck Godfrey had it in his head — he’s like, ‘You should read Paper Towns.’ I read it, and then he called me, and before he could finish the sentence, I said, ‘Yes, of course.'” said Wolff.
Finally, screenwriters Neustadter and Weber revealed that they have already begun writing the screenplay for Paper Towns.
“We have started — we’re not allowed to say too much just yet, but we are very excited because Nat Wolff is gonna be in it and he is so talented.” said Weber. “This is actually the first time we’ve written for an actor before we’ve started — we’ve never had that experience before.”
Neustadter went on to add that knowing Wolff will star in the film “really doesn’t change the process” because they “feel really comfortable” knowing Wolff is the one who will be taking the lead.
The Fault in Our Stars hits theaters Friday, June 6 and Paper Towns is set to be released sometime in 2015.
