Star Wars alum John Boyega is joining the Netflix family.

According to Variety, actor John Boyega has signed a Netflix deal that will find him developing original film projects for the online streaming giant.

Boyega will be working through his UpperRoom Productions banner to produce non-English language, international films set against the backdrop of West and East Africa.

In a statement announcing the partnership, Netflix shared a few more details with regards to what we can expect from the projects Boyega will develop for them. Specifically, the streaming platform revealed that the films center on “stories, cast, characters, crew, literary properties, mythology, screenplays and/or other elements in or around African countries.”

Meanwhile, Boyega also released a statement with regards to the big announcement.

“I am thrilled to partner with Netflix to develop a slate of non-English language feature films focused on African stories, and my team and I are excited to develop original material. We are proud to grow this arm of our business with a company that shares our vision,” said Boyega.

Moviegoers will likely best know Boyega for portraying stormtrooper-turned Resistance recruit, Finn, in Star Wars Episodes VII through IX.

Behind the scenes however, Boyega founded UpperRoom back in 2016, before going on to earn his first producing credit through the company with 2018’s Pacific Rim: Uprising.

We’ll be looking forward to seeing what Boyega has in store for us as his forthcoming projects move further and further into development over at Netflix!
