John Barrowman is most famous for his stints on Doctor Who and Torchwood as the swashbuckling, larger-than-life Captain Jack Harkness. Now he’s snagged a spot on the upcoming CW show, Arrow.

According to Entertainment Weekly, John Barrowman is joining the cast of the new CW show, Arrow. Arrow is based upon the DC Comic character of Green Arrow. According to the CW, the show focuses on the life of billionaire playboy Oliver Queen who returns home after being shipwrecked for several years. The experience of having to survive rendered Queen a significantly changed man. The once carefree, spoiled, and thoughtless Oliver Queen creates an alter-ego of Arrow, a vigilante who fights with a bow and arrow (hence the series name) who rights the wrongs of his hometown of Starling City.

Barrowman will be playing the role of a “well-dressed man” who is “as mysterious as he is wealthy … he is an acquaintance of the Queen family and a prominent figure in Starling City.” There is some speculation, based upon the DC Comics mythology, that Barrowman might be playing Stanley Dover Sr.

John Barrowman is an avid superhero fan. He frequently mentions his obsession with comic book heroes during various interviews. He is also a noted collector of comic books and comic book memorabilia.

Will you be watching Arrow this fall? Its first episode is Wednesday, October 10 at 8:00/7:00 (c).
