Fans have been dying to know for months which former Doctor Who companions might or might not be making a return for the 50th anniversary special. Both John Barrowman and Arthur Darvill are hinting they may be back.

For well over a year John Barrowman has been saying that he has not been asked to do the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. Hoping for the best, he specifically arranged his Arrow contract so that he could make a Doctor Who appearance should the occasion come up. Whenever the question, up until today, has been put to him, he’s always stated that he hasn’t been asked, but that he’d return in a heartbeat. As of this morning, on the U.K. ITV program This Morning, his tune dramatically changed.

Following the program and a flurry of excited tweets, Barrowman clarified a bit on his own Twitter.

Barrowman is currently on a book signing tour in the U.K. with his sister Carol to promote the next book in their children’s adventure series, Bone Quill. He’s doing lots of media, so expect him to be further grilled by interviewers in the upcoming days.

Arthur Darvill has also hinted that he’d be open to a Doctor Who return. Originally, back in the fall, both he and Karen Gillan expressed that Amy and Rory would be very much done with the Doctor. In speaking with Digital Spy, Darvill stated, “I’m so busy at the moment that I don’t know if I’d be able to, but I’m very loyal to Doctor Who – I saw Steven Moffat recently and I think he’s brilliant. He’s one of those people that if he ever asked me to do anything, I’d do it.”

On top of all of this, Louise Jameson, who played the companion Leela back in the Tom Baker era, responded to a fan on Twitter who stated “If the #DoctorWho 50th special(s) doesn’t feature at least one past Doctor I think I’ll genuinely cry” Jameson replied with the below tweet.
