John Barrowman is back as Captain Jack in this year’s upcoming Doctor Who holiday special!

Whovians can expect to see a familiar face pop up as part of this year’s Doctor Who holiday special.

BBC officially announced on Monday (November 23) that actor John Barrowman has officially signed on to reprise his role as Captain Jack Harkness for this year’s highly anticipated holiday special.

In a statement announcing his grand return, John Barrowman said: “Putting on Jack’s coat and setting foot back on the set of Doctor Who was just like going back home. It’s always thrilling to play Captain Jack. He’s a character very close to my heart who changed my life, and to know the fans love him as much as I do makes his return even sweeter. I hope everyone enjoys Jack’s heroic adventure with Thirteen.”

In addition, Barrowman also took to Twitter to spread the good news with fans far and wide.

The fan favorite character was last seen as part of the season 12 episode titled “Fugitive of the Judoon,” where he made a brief but memorable surprise appearance.

Fans will likely recall that Captain Jack popped up to offer up a very important warning to Yaz (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole), and Graham (Bradley Walsh), asking the trio to pass his message along to the Doctor before disappearing almost as quickly as he’d come.

So what sort of role will the Captain assume as part of this year’s holiday special? According to the official synopsis for “Revolution of the Daleks,” fans can expect to see Captain Jack lend a hand when it comes to helping the fam as they discover a disturbing plan forming involving one of the Doctor’s most feared and dangerous enemies.

With the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) locked away in a space prison, will Captain Jack be able to help save planet Earth? Guess we’ll all just have to tune in to the holiday special to find out!

“Revolution of the Daleks” is set to air this holiday season via BBC America.
