J.K. Rowling has blessed us with lots of inspiration over the years, and another dose of empowerment came today for those of us who think we don’t have the resources to write a brilliant story.
This morning Rowling was writing in her garden’s writing room when she popped out quick for a fresh cuppa tea. With her MacBook and a fresh bout of inspiration in tow, Rowling accidentally opened her Photo Booth app and discovered what she looked like in that frantic moment:
Pro writing tip: when carrying your open MacBook across a lawn to fetch more tea, do not accidentally activate Photo Booth.

A crazy, wild-eyed crone will appear. Seeing how you look in the throes of inspiration is #terrifying.

Unfortunately for all of us, she didn’t accidentally hit the record button:
I didn't press 'take photo', funnily enough. Some things were not meant for posterity. https://t.co/0vSpcI3bdd

But when a fan asked her how writers can launch a career of their own without an expensive Apple laptop, Rowling reminded her that she didn’t have anything high-tech when she started writing the Harry Potter series in the ’90s.
Here are J.K. Rowling’s thoughts on writing:
I wrote first 2 Potters by hand and typed them on a 10 yr old typewriter. All a writer needs is talent & ink. https://t.co/oK30qfcVZK

The Harry Potter author has one of the most inspiring stories ever. Her first Harry Potter book was turned down by multiple publishers before Bloomsbury and Scholastic discovered her. She went from living in poverty to being one of the richest people on the planet — and then giving a lot of her money back to charity.
If Rowling can write the first two Potter books on a piece of paper, you too have the resources to write your story.
