Last month we learned that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling was planning to build two tree houses for her children that looked very much like Hogwarts.

After plans were filed, neighbors complained.

The Scotsman reports that neighbors claimed the two tree houses would “blight” the appearance of the area, causing the landscape to be obstructed when viewed from the nearby roads.

Said one neighbor, “Our concern is without this high and substantial screening belt of conifers, the entrance to the conservation area would be marked by this massive and very high tree house development and this would be quite out of character with the area and unacceptable.”

Despite this and other complaints, the Edinburgh planning committee approved the plans today, saying the “proposals comply with the development plan and will not adversely impact on the character and appearance of the conservation area.”

The tree houses are reportedly costing £250,000 and include a rope bridge, a trap door, a fireman’s pole, a spiral staircase, and a slide.
