Remember that little Harry Potter prequel that J.K. Rowling wrote for charity back in 2008? It’s been stolen, and the author and police are encouraging fans to be vigilant.

The 800-word, hand-written story about James and Sirius’s run-in with police three years before Harry Potter was born was stolen from its home in Birmingham, England in April.

The “prequel” sold for $32,152 in 2008, with the money going to English PEN and Dyslexia Action. The former helps protect writers’ freedoms.

Police believe that the thief will attempt to sell it to Harry Potter fans, as Rowling’s true devotees are the only people who would be interested it. Rowling echo’d on Twitter:

Maybe J.K. Rowling should release a full-blown Harry Potter prequel starring the Marauders to help decrease interest in this little story about James and Sirius ?
