Don’t expect a follow-up to “the eighth story,” or another story following The Boy Who Lived.

While at the opening night gala for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child this weekend, J.K. Rowling seemed surprisingly adamant about Harry’s future: There is none.

“No. No. He goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we’re done,” she told Reuters. “This is the next generation, you know. So, I’m thrilled to see it realised so beautifully but, No, Harry is done now.”

For Rowling to be so firm about not writing another Harry Potter book is a little surprising, especially because she’s always said she’d “never say never” to another story.

Perhaps now, with an eighth story finally out there, she’s decided there’s no reason for Harry’s journey to continue with “Book 9” or “the ninth story.”

More stories about witches and wizards are definitely coming from Rowling, but they won’t be about Harry: A Fantastic Beasts film trilogy is currently in the works, and the author could one day dive into other areas of her world (A Marauders book series, anyone? An Albus/Rose/Scorpius series, anyone?).

The Cursed Child went on sale Saturday night, and fans quickly began diving into the story. We’d love if you left your review of it here!

Do you believe J.K. Rowling when she says Harry’s story is truly finished?
