Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has revealed a ‘surprise’ for fans in a CNN interview. Apparently she’s written a secret book! On a dress! Don’t get too excited though, because you probably won’t ever get to read and/or wear it.

CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour recently sat down with J.K. Rowling to discuss her charity Lumos, which is working to help orphaned or displaced children across the world regain their right to a family.

Last week, we were told that the interview contained a surprise for fans, which naturally sent our minds spinning — it could have been anything, from an auction to an announcement about the long-awaited and probably-hanging-in-a-closet-somewhere Harry Potter Encyclopedia!

Well now we know: It’s a book! Specifically, the “political fairytale” that she first revealed she was working on back in 2015.

In the interview clip, you can see Rowling hesitating before answering the question, but in the end she decides to spill the beans, revealing that she did in fact end up writing the book… on a dress.

Says Rowling:

On my 50th — the theme of my 50th birthday, which I held at Halloween, even though that’s not really my birthday, was ‘come as your own private nightmare.’ And I went as a lost manuscript. And I wrote over a dress most of that book. So that book, I don’t know whether it will ever be published, but it’s actually hanging in a wardrobe currently.

That the book should be hanging in a wardrobe is oddly appropriate considering that Harry Potter himself was locked in a cupboard for so long.

We hope that Rowling’s political fairytale will see the light of day one day, too — if nothing else, she can auction the dress off for charity! I can’t imagine many Harry Potter fans who wouldn’t jump at the chance to literally be inside one of J.K. Rowling’s stories.
