While promoting her new book The Casual Vacancy (whose first week sales numbers were released today), J.K. Rowling recently and briefly touched on the Harry Potter series. She revealed the sole character she was happy killing off.

The revelation came when the interviewer asked Rowling if she enjoyed killing off the characters. “No, never,” she replied. “Although that’s not quite true. There was one exception. The only character I was happy to kill off was Bellatrix Lestrange in the last Harry Potter volume. Being able to kill her was a pleasure.”

Bellatrix’s death scene is a fan favorite in the series because we get to see Molly Weasley kill her after the Death Eater had tried to kill Mrs. Weasley’s daughter Ginny. “NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!,” she cried before engaging in a duel.

Elsewhere in the interview, Rowling admits that she gets to write “less often than I’d like” due to her Harry Potter business commitments which include Pottermore, The Wizarding World theme parks, and movie-related material. Despite business and family responsibilities, she still has good writing days. She describes a recent morning where she spent four hours in bed with breakfast writing.

We’re surprised she didn’t also list Lord Voldemort or any of the other baddies introduced throughout the series.

Which Harry Potter characters were you happy to see killed?
