Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling briefly spoke about her spinoff movie Fantastic Beasts when speaking to the media over the weekend.

Rowling held a fundraiser for her Lumos Foundation on Saturday at the Harry Potter Studio Tour in England and raised over 1 million for Lumos. The special occasion was attended by Potter stars Emma Watson, Alan Rickman, Evanna Lynch, and Warwick Davis. A dinner and charity auction entertained adults while kids enjoyed magic shows and a tour of the Potter studio.

In an interview with the BBC, Rowling was asked at the very end about her new spinoff Harry Potter movie Fantastic Beasts starring Newt Scamander. It is the first time we’re seeing her talk about the spinoff on video. When the interviewer introduces the topic, a big, proud smile comes across Rowling’s face.

Asked if she’ll ever be able to say goodbye to the Potter universe or will ever want to leave, she responded, “To be honest, it was seventeen years [since she started writing Harry Potter]. And now I’m back there. In a very different way, it’s different characters, but it is the same world. I think part of me will forever live there.” She paused briefly before adding, “And I’m not sorry about that.”

The smile and body language at 3 minutes, 17 seconds shows exactly how Rowling is feeling about this spinoff. She’s clearly very excited about it, which in turn makes us even more thrilled it’s happening. When we spoke to producer David Heyman in September, he too was visibly passionate about the project.

Warner Bros. and Rowling announced the project in September. At last check Rowling is still working on the script. We’re imagining the studio could be aiming for a release as early as 2016.
