The One Direction members are temporarily going their separate ways. Jimmy Kimmel Live! couldn’t resist making some fun of the media uproar.

We really hope we’re not the ones to break this to you: yesterday, on Sunday, The Sun broke the news that the British boyband sensation has decided to take a break, temporarily but indefinitely, to focus on their solo careers.

Naturally, 1D fans took this news very badly (they were still recovering from Zayn’s controversial exit), although most remained level-headed: it’s not a split, merely a break. Stay cool.

Jimmy Kimmel took some time to address the situation on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and presented a compilation of news clips, from programs that all had the same idea for an obvious pun:

“One Direction are going in different directions!” How crass. We’d much prefer something more subtle like, “One Direction has reached a fork in the road,” or “One Direction should change their name to Compass.” Or… something. (Maybe we’ll just not make puns during this terrible time.)

Three of the band’s four remaining members have spoken out about the split, insisting that it is indeed just a break, and not permanent.

Are you optimistic that the band will find its way back together?
