Jimmy Kimmel may have Paul McCartney and Justin Timberlake on ABC this week, but soon-to-be-competitor Jimmy Fallon had some unique guests of his own Wednesday: The cast of Sesame Street.

Celebrating the show’s 44th anniversary and completely aware of his viewership’s nostalgic feelings towards the long-running children’s television show, Fallon and The Roots performed Sesame Street’s classic theme song “Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street?” using toy instruments and the entire group’s vocals.

Watch the fun performance below:

Notable aspects of the song are the new rap portion by one of The Roots’ band members, and Elmo at the beginning talking about how exciting the performance is.

Fallon will be replacing Jay Leno in The Tonight Show slot on NBC early next year. It will be a significant shift for late night television because Letterman will be the only remaining older host appearing in the coveted 11:30 time slot. Fallon and Kimmel are both younger (compared to Letterman), and they may have an easier time nabbing audiences in the coveted 18 – 45 year old range.

Fallon will remain in New York and for the first time since the 1970s The Tonight Show will be based in the Big Apple.
