The Los Angeles Times has it on good authority that Jimmy Fallon is in talks to host next year’s 2013 Academy Awards, with SNL’s Lorne Michaels to produce. The catch: ABC is unhappy with the idea of having their late night rival showcased.

As the LA Times reports, Fallon and Michaels are in talks to host and produce next year’s Oscars, and while ABC and Disney are unhappy with the idea of Fallon hosting, as he is the competitor of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel, they have no say over who ultimately is hired.

According to three separate sources, talks were initiated by Motion Picture Academy president Tom Sherak before his presidency ended earlier this week. New president Hawk Koch has said his first order of business is finding a producer, and the connection here is that Koch and Lorne Michaels have a history together, having both worked on Wayne’s World in 1992.

While the sources have all said nothing is concrete in terms of finding a host and producer, Fallon and Michaels certainly make sense and are the only names we’ve heard connected with the 2013 Academy Awards so far. Would you like to see Fallon host the Oscars?
