Just one week ago we reported that Jimmy Fallon was in talks to host the 2013 Academy Awards. Now Fallon has commented on the rumors, and he apparently will not be hosting.

In a new interview with Matt Lauer of The Today Show via (LA Times), Fallon was asked whether he was “considered” for the hosting gig, to which he (rather straightforwardly) replied: “No, I’m not going to do the Oscars. It’s an honor to be asked by the academy, but it’s not my year.”

While this doesn’t really add any specific reasoning as to why Fallon won’t be hosting, it’s fair to say that the combination of the departure of former Academy president (and chief Fallon advocate) Tom Sherak and the fact ABC was less-than-thrilled with seeing a Late Night rival host had everything to do with the decision.

We’re a little discouraged to hear the news, but this of course opens up the door for any number of possible hosts for this year’s Oscars. Who would you like to see host?
