Saturday Night Live has found its Joe Biden in none other than Jim Carrey!

Season 46 of Saturday Night Live is just around the corner, and in addition to seeing a slew of familiar faces amongst the cast, fans can also look forward to enjoying appearances by Jim Carrey.

The long running comedy series took to Twitter to share the good news about Carrey’s involvement with the world on Thursday (September 16).

“Jim Carrey is our new Joe Biden!” Tweeted the show, along with a fairly fitting gif.

In a new interview with Vulture, SNL boss Lorne Michaels confirmed that Carrey would officially be portraying former Vice President, and current Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden on the sketch comedy series’ 46th season.

Fans of the long running NBC series might recall that the former VP was recently brought to life by Woody Harrelson, who did an impression of Biden on the first show back last season. With that in mind, it may come as a shock for those theorizing that he might return to reprise the role leading up to the election, that Harrelson won’t in fact be doing so.

So how did Jim Carrey get brought into the mix? Interestingly, Michaels revealed that Carrey seems to have scored the role by reaching out and expressing interest in portraying Biden on the long running comedy series.

“There was some interest on his part. And then we responded, obviously, positively,” Michaels told Vulture. “But it came down to discussion bout what the take was. He and Colin Jost had a bunch of talks. He and I as well. He will give the part energy and strength…hopefully it’s funny.”

In addition to Jim Carrey, Maya Rudolph and Alec Baldwin will be returning to reprise their roles as Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, respectively. Meanwhile, current SNL cast member Beck Bennett will continue to portray current Vice President Mike Pence.

Saturday Night Live season 46 kicks off on October 3.
