Jim Carrey is officially heading back to the small screen!

It’s been a while since Jim Carrey landed himself a television role, but soon you’ll be able to see the beloved comedian back on the small screen.

Showtime revealed via their official Twitter account on Thursday (September 14) that the network had officially ordered a new comedy called Kidding. Carrey will star in the upcoming comedy, which will also reunite him with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michael Gondry.

“It’s official: @JimCarrey is returning to TV! #Showtime has ordered a new comedy #Kidding, with Oscar winner @MichaelGondry set to direct,” tweeted the network.

According to Vareity, Kidding is a half hour comedy series which will find Carrey playing a character named Jeff, best known for playing an iconic children’s television show host called Mr. Pickles. Jeff’s life gets turned upside down after a family crisis causes things to spiral downward.

Though Carrey’s upcoming role marks his first television gig since the comedic actor starred in the ’90s sketch comedy series In Living Color, Kidding isn’t Carrey’s first venture with Showtime.

The actor currently executive produces Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here, which has just been renewed for a second season.

In a statement announcing Carrey’s involvement, Showtime president and CEO David Nevins spoke of the network’s excitement to work with both Carrey and Gondry.

“No one inhabits a character like Jim Carrey, and this role — which is like watching Humpty Dumpty after the fall — is going to leave television audiences wondering how they went so long without him,” said Nevins. “With his Eternal Sunshine partner Michael Gondry on board to direct, we are on our way to a magnetic, volcanic and emotional viewing experience.”
