Apparently the studios aren’t nearly as excited about a Dumb and Dumber sequel as Jim Carrey is. The comedian has reportedly backed out of the film due to a growing frustration with Warner Bros. and New Line, who clearly don’t share his enthusiasm for a sequel to a decades old cult comedy.

Speaking to ET, Carrey gave an example over their lack of excitement with his proposed title – Dumb and Dumber To – which Carrey seems to find much more amusing than anyone else:

I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer, after all it’s implied in the title.

Sigh. Even movie stars just want to be loved.

If this is the extent of the issues with the film, everyone in Hollywood should be lodging complaints with celebrity entertainment websites. Studios are in the business of money, period. So unless a magic-8 ball were to arrive on the doorstep of Jeff Robinov* saying the sequel to an admittedly great ’90s comedy were to make $500 million, why should the studio get excited over a punny title?

*Editor’s Note: Jeff Robinov is the President and COO of Warner Bros.

Either way, it’s unlikely this will put a stop to a sequel for Dumb and Dumber permanently, but perhaps we’ll get a different title, maybe: The Dumb and the Dumber: Tokyo Drift. That has a ring to it! No? Rats.
