Jim Carrey may have just been confirmed as being cast for the role of Colonel Stars in Kick-Ass 2, according to a cryptic tweet from Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar.

Earlier tonight on Twitter, a few tweets went out from Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow and writer Mark Millar that seem to point to Jim Carrey as the actor who will be playing Colonel Stars in Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall.

Colonel Stars is “an ex-thug and born again Christian who sets up Justice Forever (a superhero team that Kick-Ass joins early on in the second volume).” Colonel Stars’ pet dog apparently plays a larger part in the comic, but the Colonel’s actual role is quite small.

Through the cryptic Twitter conversation seen above, fans have pinpointed Carrey as the actor being hinted at. We’re unsure whether writer Mark Millar assumed fans would guess so quickly or not, but he definitely gave enough clues for avid fans to figure out who he was talking about. Fans quickly replied to him, suggesting Jim Carrey as the mystery actor that Millar had hinted at, but he did not confirm the news.

Clues revealed:

  • Alrighty f’n then! (From Ace Ventura)
  • He lives with 200 raccoons and parrots. (Also from Ace Ventura)
  • Owns the mask of Loki. (From The Mask)
  • Named by Spielberg as a genius. (Jim famously roasted Spielberg at the ’95 AFI awards for not casting him in any films – Steven Spielberg referred to him as a genius afterwards)
  •
We reported that Carrey was being considered less than two weeks ago, but nothing official had been revealed. Now, this isn’t exactly official, but seeing as the writer of Kick-Ass gave a few fairly big clues hinting at Jim Carrey being cast as the Colonel, it seems we may see the iconic funny-man in Kick-Ass 2.

Update: This news has now been confirmed by Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow.

Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall hits theaters June 28, 2013.
