Reality star and singer Jessica Simpson is working on a new sitcom ordered today by NBC. The sitcom is based on her life, which is arguably a joke within itself.

The pitch was developed by Robin and Nick Bakay. The latter wrote Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Ben Silverman of Universal Television is producing and offered oddly high praise of Simpson. “Jessica Simpson is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops,” said Silverman. “From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica’s character approach a variety of ‘everyday’ circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud.”

We’re unsure of the comparison between Simpson and I Love Lucy/Lucille Ball, but we absolutely cannot resist tuning in for the pilot if it makes it to NBC’s airwaves.

Simpson starred in MTV’s reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica following her marriage to Lachey in 2003. They filed for divorce in 2005.

The star had a sitcom in development over at ABC a few years ago but the project was scrapped. In that, she played a newscaster according to Vulture.

Is a Jessica Simpson sitcom dead on arrival at NBC? Or could there be hope after all?
