Jessica Raine, of Call the Midwife fame, is not only appearing in this week’s Doctor Who episode titled “Hide,” but she is also cast in a key role in the Mark Gatiss docudrama An Adventure In Time and Space.

Steven Moffat has described this week’s episode that was penned by Neil Cross, who previously wrote “The Rings of Akhaten,” as “This is proper, scary Doctor Who, full of surprises and twists, and — unexpectedly — a rather gorgeous love story. Or two, maybe…”

The Doctor Who crew has gone to great lengths to get just the right, spooky atmosphere. In fact, they incorporated natural light whenever possible. An image of only three candles lighting the faces of Matt Smith and guest star Dougray Scott was posted to Director of Photography Mike Southorn’s website seen below.

Aside from Scott, the episode co-stars rising BBC star Jessica Raine. Raine has garnered much praise for her Call the Midwife role. Come the fall, she’ll be portraying legendary BBC producer Verity Lambert, one of the key figures in the early days of Doctor Who. She was a pioneer, who opened the door for women in TV in executive positions.

This Saturday, however, Raine will be in Hide. She told The Radio Times that the episode is unusual because the cast is highly limited. It focuses on just the Doctor, Clara, and Scott and Raine’s characters. Raine’s character is described as “an emotional psychic” who can feel the energy in the house.

Raine loved the atmospheric house, she stated that:

It is a spooky one and we filmed it in this incredible National Trust house, just outside Wales…The lights were dimmed down and I remember going off for a little wander – which I’m sure isn’t allowed, but I just can’t resist it. It’s like going into territory you’re not meant to.

There are two versions of the “Hide” teaser. One was released by the BBC and one by BBC America.
