Will Jessica Lange meet up with Mark Wahlberg on a warm summer’s evenin’ on a train bound for nowhere?

No, they’re remaking the other The Gambler. Thankfully, we won’t be seeing Mark Wahlberg remake the Kenny Rogers movie based on his hit song (though we’re not gonna lie, seeing Marky Mark cover the song would have to be entertaining).

According to Deadline, Jessica Lange will be joining Wahlberg in the remake of the 1974 released The Gambler, the one that has absolutely nothing to do with Kenny Rogers. Lange will play the role of the mother of Wahlberg’s character. She had been in talks for a few months, but a deal is finally official.

In the film, Wahlberg will play the role originally played by James Caan. The character is a gambling addicted college professor whose addiction takes over his life, leading to a lot of debt and the friendship of some really bad people. The film will also star rising star Brie Larson as the female lead opposite Wahlberg.

With these three actors, director Rupert Wyatt is putting together a very impressive cast. The Gambler will be Wyatt’s first film since 2011. Rise of the Planet of the Apes did very well critically, as well as financially, and hopefully he will see similar success here.

Jessica Lange has had a resurgence in her career as of late, and she’s been most notably successful for her work in American Horror Story. She certainly surprised fans when she announced that she would be leaving the show after the fourth season, but it is great to hear that she’ll be taking on roles like this even when she’s gone from the show.
