Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams is stepping behind the camera for his next endeavor.

According to Variety, actor Jesse Williams is gearing up to make his directorial film debut that’ll find him tackling the story of Emmett Till.

Till was a young African American teenager who was lynched in Mississippi in 1955 at the age of 14 after being accused of flirting with a white woman.

Titled Till, the Grey’s Anatomy star’s film is set to focus on the teenager’s mother, Mamie Elizabeth Till-Mobley. It’ll tell the story of her search for justice following her son’s murder.

Michael Reilly penned the script that Williams will be directing off of. In addition, Williams will also be working with Keith A. Beauchamp who will serve as a producer on the film. Till is in turn based off of a documentary Beauchamp released back in 2005 titled The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till.

Beauchamp’s documentary film is of particular importance because it is what lead the United States Departent of Justice to reopen Till’s case back in 2004.

Other producers on the project in addition to Williams and Beauchamp include Frederick Zollo, Barbara Broccoli, Thomas Levine, Leah Natasha Thomas, and actress/comedian Whoopi Goldberg. Goldberg is also set to appear in the film though there currently aren’t any details with regards to who she might play.

Williams’ upcoming project is one of many coming down the pipeline which are gearing up to tackle the story of Emmett Till.

Currently, Skyland Pictures and FireRock Bay Pictures are working on adapting the play The Face of Emmett Till for the big screen. the film was co-written by Till-Mobley, prior to her death in 2003.

Additionally, HBO is currently working on bringing an Emmett Till mini series to the small screen. The upcoming mini series is being produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith along with Aaron Kaplan.

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect any of the aforementioned projects to premiere.
