Red Band Society is adding a couple of new characters to season 1, and newest addition is Jes Macallan of Mistresses fame.

A few months back, we reported that Red Band Society had cast Daren Kagasoff as Hunter, a “bad boy” patient (or nurse?).

We’re assuming patient because Deadline reports that Jes Macallan will play his older sister Ashley Cole (no, not the football player… anyone? No? Moving on).

You might also recognise Macallan from Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS: Los Angeles or Justified.

Red Band Society is five episodes into its first season, and the ratings have so far been terrible. Fox has not yet issued a renewal for the series, but it’s not over yet – considering how hard the network has been pushing the series, it’s not impossible that they’ll give the showrunners another year to find its audience.

Last episode introduced some serious issues that might prove for interesting storylines: Nurse Jackson (Octavia Spencer) switched out blood tests in order to keep her promise to coma patient Charlie (Griffin Gluck), and we can imagine that this will have huge repercussions for her.

Dash (Astro)’s illness is worsening, and though he’s just gotten his pager for new lungs, he’s not sure he wants to go through with the operation.

Kara (Zoe Levin) is planning to go to the medical board to appeal for a new heart. We have previously reported that Mandy Moore will be joining the cast as a member of this board, and also as Dr. McAndrew (Dave Annable)’s ex-fiancée.

Red Band Society season 1, episode 6 airs next Wednesday at 9/8c on Fox.
