The Avengers: Age of Ultron actor Jeremy Renner hints that his character, Hawkeye, will appear in Captain America 3.

In a new interview with MTV, Jeremy Renner talks a bit about his future as Hawkeye in solo Marvel films, and throws a big hint toward his appearance in Captain America 3.

While we’ve known that Renner has a multi-picture contract with Marvel, finding out that he’s content being an ensemble superhero isn’t entirely surprising.

The clues do seem to be pointing toward him appearing as a sidekick of sorts in Captain America 3, as this is the second time now that the actor has specifically hinted towards appearing in the third Captain America film.

Renner also talked a bit about his frustration of having to play what was essentially a villain in The Avengers, but says that he’ll be playing the character he and director Joss Whedon had always talked about in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

He was vocal after The Avengers came out that he was keen to actually play the character that he and Whedon originally came up with. Meaning he signed on to play Hawkeye in multiple films and in the first hour or so of The Avengers he was turned into a highly skilled lackey for Tom Hiddleston’s character Loki.

We’re definitely interested to see Hawkeye alongside Captain America in the third film. While The Winter Soldier was incredibly successful, we certainly want to see some new storylines come up in the third film, while hopefully seeing a continuation of the Bucky storyline.

Adding Hawkeye into the mix would definitely change the film’s dynamic, especially if there ends up being some back and forth between Scarlett Johansson’s character Black Widow that we saw in The Avengers.

For now he will continue his work on The Avengers: Age of Ultron along with the rest of the enormous Avengers’ cast, and we’re excited to find out how involved the actor will be in Captain America 3, which hits theaters May 6, 2016.

Jeremy Renner can be seen next as Hawkeye in The Avengers: Age of Ultron when it hits theaters May 1, 2015.
