Actor Jeremy Irons is the latest start to join the cast of Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Munich.

According to Variety, actor Jeremy Irons has signed on to appear in the forthcoming Netflix original movie, Munich.

Based on author Robert Harris’ best selling novel of the same name, Munich takes place in 1938 and centers on the Munich agreement between Hitler and the UK Prime Minister at the time, Neville Chamberlain. It focuses on two civil servants (one British, one German)— two old friends who find themselves reuniting six years after they attended university together, but who now find themselves mixed up in a dangerous political climate.

For the Netflix adaptation, Irons is set to take on the role of Neville Chamberlain.

In a statement announcing his involvement, Munich author Robert Harris said: “It’s great to see an actor of Jeremy Irons’ stature playing Neville Chamberlain. This will be the first time a major movie has gone beyond the cult of Winston Churchill and tried to show Chamberlain in a more sympathetic light.”

Jeremy Irons joins previously announced cast member and 1917 vet, George McKay, who is set to play Legat— one of the two young civil servants.

Meanwhile, Martin Wuttke is set to portray Adolf Hitler. Wuttke seems especially suited for the role— especially given that he’s previously portrayed the infamous dictator once before in Inglorious Basterds.

Others who’ve also previously joined the cast of the drama include Jannis Niehwohner, Liv Lisa Fries, Erin Doherty, Sandra Huller, August Diehl, Robert Bathurst, and Mark Limpach.

Behind the scenes, The Crown’s Christian Schwochow will serve as director on the project. Schwochow will be directing from a script adapted by Ben Power.

Munich is set to debut via Netflix sometime in 2021.
